Using IFTTT or If This Then That

Today we are defying the age old wisdom set before us in the 1984 film "Ghostbusters." That's right folks, today we are crossing the streams.

The topic of today's blog is a great website and mobile application that you can use to cross many of your favorite social networking and common applications to create brilliant synergies. The website I am writing about is called, www.ifttt.com, and it stands for "If This Then That." Sure the name is a little peculiar, but the service is incredibly useful.

There are tons of ways that you can uniquely make recipes to cross some of your favorite programs.  Want a tweet to be sent out whenever you upload a photo to Instagram?   How would you enjoy receiving a text message every time it starts to rain, or when the temperature drops below freezing?  Want to automatically have chess tips tweeted daily (a personal favorite) or sent to your Dropbox? These are all things that you can setup in ifttt, but really the custom combinations you can make are almost endless (I am not a statistician so I am just assuming that statement is somewhat true).  Additionally, there are hundreds upon hundreds of pre-made recipes that you can browse, or you can just create your own from their user friendly interface.

If you spend a little bit of time creating a few recipes I guarantee you will find an incredibly useful combination that you will use over and over again.
